Reading Fur Fun

Reading Fur Fun is an innovative literacy program that gives children ages 8-11 an opportunity to improve their reading skills while enriching the lives of the Arizona Humane Society’s shelter dogs. Your child will provide dogs with valuable socialization and stimulation as they read aloud their favorite book. In exchange, our sweet dogs will provide your child with an unforgettable reading experience and perhaps a few wet kisses!

Ages: 8-11

Registration: $10 per child

The fee for registering your child for Reading Fur Fun is non-refundable. If your child needs to cancel, the registration will be converted to a tax-deductible donation.

Does your dog need some manners? Enroll in our Basic Obedience class to work with your dog on learning some of the basics of good manners. In this class you will learn to train your dog to sit, lay down, stay, come, and walk on a loose leash and more! This class will also work with you to solve any other problems you may be having with your dog!

AAWL Volunteer Orientation @ Chandler Mall

This Orientation class will provide you with information on what we do, where we rescue our animals from, and ways in which you can help AAWL. We ask that volunteers be at least 18 years old and be willing to commit to eight hours a month for six consecutive months of volunteering.

Please make sure you complete the online Volunteer Application and register for this class prior to attending Orientation. 

While there is no fee to become a volunteer, there is a $10-12 fee for the volunteer shirt and a $5 donation fee for volunteer insurance that you will be asked to purchase during orientation. Please come prepared.

NOTE: **Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can check you in.

Lucky Dog Rescue Painting Class

Join Elijah Trapp with "The Art Trapp" and Fabulous Arizona for a painting class benefiting Lucky Dog Rescue at Social Tap Scottsdale on Saturday, May 13, 10am to noon. 

Artist Elijah Trapp will guide the class in creating a dog-inspired painting. The cost of the ticket includes the art canvas, supplies and class instruction. Guests will be able to take their creations home with them. A portion of each ticket will be donated to Lucky Dog Rescue. 

Guests will have the option of buying food and beverages from the Social Tap brunch menu during the class. 

**The Social Tap patio is dog-friendly, however we recommend leaving your dogs at home so you can focus on your masterpiece! :)

Puppy Party – Campus for Compassion

Socializing your puppy is one of the most important steps in raising a happy, well-behaved dog. AHS’ Puppy Parties provide a safe, secure and clean environment for your puppy to practice important social skills with other puppies and people. Our Puppy Parties are held Sundays at our Sunnyslope Campus (SS) and Saturdays at our Campus for Compassion (CC) and are open to pups 8-weeks up to 6-months-old. Humans must bring a puppy to attend. Remember space is limited, please reserve your spot for each puppy party you would like to attend.

Please bring proof of your dog’s current vaccinations to the first class and update us when they receive new vaccines. All dogs must have at least one Da2PP and one Bordetella.

Volunteer Orientation / Shelter Tour

This Orientation & Shelter Tour class will provide you with information on what we do, where we rescue our animals from, and ways in which you can help AAWL. We ask that volunteers be at least 18 years old and be willing to commit to eight hours a month for six consecutive months of volunteering.

Please make sure you complete the Online Volunteer Application and register for this class prior to attending Orientation & Shelter Tour. 

While there is no fee to become a volunteer, there is a $10-12 fee for the volunteer shirt and a $5 donation fee for volunteer insurance that you will be asked to purchase during orientation. Please come prepared.

Orientation will be held upstairs in the Sonia Breslow Adoption Center, located at 25 N. 40th Street. Parking is available on 40th St. in front of the Sonia Breslow Adoption Center.**

**ADDITIONAL parking is also available on 40th Place, just east of 40th Street. You must enter from Washington on 40th Place heading West from 44th Street due to the light rail.

Dog Training: Taming Separation Anxiety Seminar

Many dogs struggle when they are left alone. For some, boredom leads to discomfort. For others, being alone can spark panic that includes barking, destruction and self-harm. This seminar will discuss dogs on both sides of the “home-alone” spectrum and offer solutions for making a dog more comfortable when the family is out. We will also discuss strategies for training and look at videos of dogs suffering from isolation distress and separation anxiety. This seminar will also include a Q&A session.
